The scheduled downtime should start on January 14 at 10:00pm US central standard time and last approximately 4-6 hours. During this time our hosting provider, The Rackspace Cloud, will be migrating us to a larger, state-of-the-art data center in Chicago. myAbakus should be up again as soon as the migration is completed.

This year we had no choice but to face reality. To put it simply: that we had no viable business model to keep myAbakus going. And that was a sad realization because we were fully committed to our vision of producing the most simple, agile and elegant accounting software a small business owner can find.

I count myself among the many that have been inspired by Steve Jobs and the amazing products that came out of Apple under his leadership. When we launched myAbakus I mentioned how loosing my laptop in 2006 turned out to be a “momentous event”: because that’s when I switched to the Mac and got to see what software ought to be.

Our aim is simple: to contribute to the success of our users by giving them a valuable tool to help them run their businesses. Yet as simple as this may sound, we will fail to achieve it if we do not first succeed as a business ourselves. That is why today we are announcing pricing changes that will become effective on June 1, 2011.
